Dairy giant Norseland has announced plans to expand its vegan cheese range after successfully entering the dairy-free market last year.
The new spicy cheese — Mexicana Vegan — is flavored with jalapeños and bell peppers, and is free from animal products, as well as free from gluten, soy, and nuts.
“It’s super-stringy when it melts and has all of the flavor of Mexicana, including a nice spicy kick” said Lisa Harrison, Senior Brand Manager for Mexicana.
A block of Mexicana Vegan will be on sale for £2.30 at Asda stores across the UK from July 20.
Vegan Cheese Success
Norseland first branched out into dairy-free cheese in 2019, with the release of Applewood Vegan. The new plant-based cheese sold out at Asda stores within 24 hours of the launch.
“Misjudged The Demand”
“40 percent of stores sold out on the first day of sale and consumers were lamenting on social media that they couldn’t buy it” said Harrison of the Applewood launch.
“Our switchboard was inundated with calls from people asking when would more stock be available. In fact, we had to take to Twitter to apologize that we had misjudged the demand.”
